Problem Statement
Low protein expression is a ubiquitous problem in bio-industry, especially in the production of therapeutic proteins. Given the very specific nature of the protein production process, one area of interest has been to modify the genetic sequence of a specific protein, without modifying the protein's primary structure. Our group will design an approach of optimizing different parameters of a protein sequence, such as rare codon usage, with the objective of increasing protein yields of a target protein. The deliverable will consist of a mathematical model which simulates the effect that variations in synonymous codons have on the fold-change of protein expression levels, non-specific to the subject protein’s primary sequence.
